Researchers found that KR-20, a fragment derived from the antimicrobial peptide LL-37, has immunomodulatory effects against Trichomonas vaginalis infection beyond its direct parasite-killing ability. In monocytes challenged with the parasite, KR-20 reduced inflammation by lowering nitric oxide production and suppressing key inflammatory genes like TNF-alpha and IL-1-beta, suggesting it could serve as both an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent for trichomoniasis.
