Showed that the vitamin B6 salvage pathway locus pdxR-pdxKU is important for Group A Streptococcus resistance to neutrophil killing and survival in human blood. Mutants exhibited impaired survival against LL-37 antimicrobial peptide and neutrophils. PdxR activates pdxKU in the absence of B6, linking vitamin metabolism to innate immune evasion.
