Three short peptides (EDR, KED, and AEDG) helped aged human neurons grown in the lab maintain healthier branching structures, including more and longer dendrites, which are critical for brain cell communication. The EDR peptide additionally reduced oxidative DNA damage in neurons derived from elderly donors. This study supports the potential use of these peptides as neuroprotective agents to slow age-related neuronal decline.
