Tests thymosin β4 against prion protein peptide PrP(106-126)-induced neurotoxicity in hippocampal cells. PrP(106-126) is the toxic fragment that drives prion disease neurodegeneration. Tβ4 treatment reduced PrP-induced apoptosis, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction through activation of neurotrophic factor signaling (BDNF/TrkB pathway). Demonstrates a novel neuroprotective role for Tβ4 in prion-like neurodegenerative conditions—extending its neuroprotective evidence to protein aggregation diseases.
