A double-network hydrogel designed to stick specifically to inflamed colon tissue — not healthy tissue — was used as a delivery vehicle for KPV peptide in rats with colitis. The gel captured KPV through electrical charge interactions and improved the peptide's stability at elevated temperatures, extending its therapeutic window. Treatment with KPV loaded in this hydrogel not only reduced colon inflammation but also shifted the gut microbiome toward beneficial bacteria.
