A temperature-sensitive hydrogel containing the antibacterial compound EGCG was developed to carry KPV peptide for treating chemotherapy-induced mouth sores. The gel forms within seconds at body temperature and adheres to gum tissue for hours, and in rats it reduced inflammation, promoted wound healing, and also cleared MRSA bacterial infections from ulcerated tissue. Animals treated with KPV in this hydrogel regained body weight faster and showed better mucosal tissue recovery than untreated animals.
