Investigates the antimicrobial mechanisms underlying thymosin β4 + ciprofloxacin synergy in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) keratitis. MIC assays showed TB4 itself lacks direct bactericidal activity. The clinical synergy operates through immune cell-mediated killing—TB4 enhances macrophage and PMN bactericidal function—rather than direct antibiotic potentiation. Clarifies the mechanistic basis for the TB4+antibiotic combination (complementing PMIDs 34944086 and 34681676) and confirms TB4 as an immunomodulatory, not antimicrobial, adjunct in corneal infections.
