Prospective ED biomarker study measuring plasma F-actin and thymosin β4 in patients at risk for sepsis. Elevated plasma F-actin correlated with worse qSOFA scores and higher rates of ICU admission. TB4, as the primary G-actin sequestrant that normally prevents cytoplasmic F-actin release, was co-assessed. Identifies the F-actin/TB4 balance as a severity-associated biomarker in sepsis triage—providing clinical validation for the TB4-as-sepsis-biomarker concept from PMID 34607232 and supporting the mechanistic link between actin dysregulation and organ failure.
