Tests combined endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) transplantation and thymosin β4 therapy for myocardial infarction in obese diabetic rats—a clinically relevant metabolic comorbidity model. Diabetes impaired native EPC function and reduced endogenous TB4 expression. Combining EPC transplantation with exogenous TB4 significantly improved cardiac function, vascularization, and EPC engraftment compared to either therapy alone. Demonstrates TB4 rescues diabetes-impaired EPC function—addressing a key challenge for cardiac cell therapy in the metabolically compromised patient population.
