Researchers developed a method to attach a radioactive fluorine-18 label to lipid-based nanoparticles, including those functionalized with a peptide linker, enabling them to be tracked in living mice using PET imaging. The labeling process was fast, used no harsh organic solvents, and the nanoparticles were stable enough to image how they traveled through the body and were cleared. The approach expands tools available for non-invasive imaging and tracking of peptide-functionalized drug carriers.
