This review examines the evidence for using melanocortin-derived peptides — particularly KPV and its analog KdPT — as treatments for skin wounds and ulcers. Both peptides retain the anti-inflammatory properties of alpha-MSH without its unwanted skin-darkening effect, and preliminary data from cell, tissue, and animal studies support their wound-healing potential. The authors outline a research pathway from lab models to potential clinical use and discuss the practical advantages and hurdles these short peptides face as drug candidates.
