Landmark study demonstrating thymosin β4 adjunctive therapy with ciprofloxacin significantly improves outcomes for Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) corneal infection versus antibiotic alone. Combined TB4+ciprofloxacin produced better clinical scores, lower bacterial load, reduced PMN infiltration, and improved wound healing markers. TB4 modulated cytokine profiles and ROS levels, enhancing host defense while limiting inflammatory damage. This foundational study established the TB4+antibiotic combination paradigm for bacterial keratitis—subsequently confirmed mechanistically for PMN function (PMID 34944086) and macrophage activity (PMID 34681676).
