Investigates BPC 157's cytoprotective mechanism in GI tract tissue and cultured enteric neurons and glial cells. BPC 157 protected enteric neurons and glial cells (components of the gut's intrinsic nervous system) from cytotoxic injury, and demonstrated cytoprotective effects in GI tissue through modulation of cellular survival pathways. Provides mechanistic evidence that BPC 157's gut protection extends to the enteric nervous system—relevant for gut motility disorders and inflammatory conditions affecting gut innervation.
