Studies thymosin β4 overexpression in the developing chicken optic tectum (a model for cortical neurogenesis), finding TB4 regulates both the number and spatial distribution of newly produced neurons. TB4 overexpression altered neural progenitor cell proliferation and neuronal migration patterns in the embryonic optic tectum. Provides developmental neuroscience evidence for TB4's role in regulating neurogenesis and neuronal positioning in the developing CNS—complementing TB4's roles in adult neural repair and suggesting a conserved developmental function in brain morphogenesis.
