Measures plasma F-actin, G-actin, and thymosin β4 in septic shock, noninfectious SIRS, and healthy controls. F-actin was significantly elevated in septic shock; G-actin was highest in noninfectious SIRS. Notably, TB4 was not detectable above assay limits in the septic shock group—suggesting TB4 is consumed or complexed in severe systemic inflammation. Identifies F-actin/G-actin ratio as a potential septic shock diagnostic biomarker and documents TB4 depletion in sepsis—providing the foundational biomarker data later expanded in PMID 32421363.
