Tests recombinant AAV-mediated thymosin β4 gene delivery for intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) by targeting nucleus pulposus (NP) cells. TB4 gene delivery enhanced NP cell proliferation, reduced apoptosis, and decreased cellular senescence over 6 passages. Establishes TB4 as a pro-survival and anti-aging agent for NP cells—relevant for treating disc degeneration, a major cause of chronic low back pain—and extends TB4's therapeutic applications to spinal disc pathology.
