Clones and characterizes thymosin β15 orthologs from chicken and quail, demonstrating a thymosin β15-like peptide promotes intersegmental myotome extension in the chicken embryo. Knockdown of avian thymosin β15 disrupted embryonic muscle segment formation. While focused on thymosin β15 (a distinct but related beta-thymosin family member), this developmental study provides comparative evolutionary context for thymosin β4's own developmental roles—demonstrating that beta-thymosin family members have distinct tissue-specific developmental functions conserved across vertebrates.
