Identifies and characterizes five β-thymosin isoforms in crayfish hematopoietic tissue, demonstrating roles in hemocyte homeostasis. Crustacean β-thymosins interacted with the ATP synthase β-subunit (like vertebrate TB4) and regulated immune cell production and migration. Extends TB4's conserved innate immunity functions to crustaceans—demonstrating that β-thymosin/ATP synthase interactions are ancient molecular mechanisms predating vertebrate evolution—and adding economically important aquaculture species to the comparative TB4 biology dataset.
