This review traces the history of beta-thymosins, which were discovered alongside thymosin alpha-1 in thymosin fraction 5, and explains how thymosin beta-4 was eventually identified as a key intracellular protein that regulates the actin cytoskeleton. While both alpha and beta thymosins originated from the same thymic extract, they serve very different biological functions, with beta-thymosins primarily managing cell structure rather than immune modulation.
