Scientists used genetically modified pituitary cells to test whether the growth hormone-releasing peptide GHRP-2 works through the same receptor as GHRH. Cells engineered to express the human GHRH receptor responded to GHRH with increased signaling, but GHRP-2 had no effect on these cells regardless of concentration. This demonstrates that GHRP-2 acts through a different receptor than GHRH, settling a debate about its mechanism of action.
