Researchers compared the growth hormone-releasing effects of the synthetic peptide GHRP-1 and GHRH in lambs, both in cell cultures and in live animals. GHRP-1 was a weaker stimulant of GH secretion than GHRH in sheep, with the highest dose of GHRP-1 producing lower GH peaks than a much smaller dose of GHRH. Interestingly, individual lambs that responded strongly to one peptide tended to respond weakly to the other, suggesting the two compounds work through different cellular mechanisms.
