This study examined growth hormone responses to different secretagogues in patients with prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors, before and after bromocriptine treatment. Patients with large tumors had severely blunted GH responses and lost the normal synergistic effect between GHRH and GHRP-6, but both recovered significantly after bromocriptine shrank the tumors. The results suggest that the physical compression of normal pituitary tissue by large prolactinomas impairs GH regulation, which can be restored by reducing tumor size.
