Researchers used transgenic mice that overproduce human growth hormone-releasing hormone, mimicking acromegaly, to test two GHRH antagonists. Both MZ-4-71 and MZ-5-156 effectively reduced the excessively high growth hormone levels by 39-72% after a single injection, and repeated dosing lowered both GH and IGF-I levels significantly. These results suggest GHRH antagonists could be useful for diagnosing and treating conditions involving excessive growth hormone secretion, such as acromegaly.
