Children with growth hormone deficiency caused by radiation therapy for brain tumors were treated with twice-daily injections of GHRH for one year. Treatment nearly doubled their growth rate from 3.3 to 6.0 cm per year with no adverse effects, though this was somewhat less effective than subsequent conventional growth hormone therapy. The study demonstrates that GHRH can be a safe and effective alternative for promoting growth in children whose pituitary glands were damaged by radiation.
