This review highlights the importance of combining biological response modifiers (BRMs) with conventional therapies for cancer and infectious diseases. Thymosin alpha-1 combined with low-dose interferon or IL-2 proved highly effective at restoring cytotoxic immune function suppressed by tumors or chemotherapy. When combined with chemotherapy, these combinations dramatically inhibited tumor growth in both animal models and humans. The approach also showed benefit in controlling infections in immunocompromised hosts, including influenza, HBV, HCV, and HIV infections.
