This study tested two related peptides, PACAP and VIP, on sheep pituitary cells to see if they could trigger hormone release. PACAP caused a modest increase in growth hormone and FSH secretion, but only at very high concentrations unlikely to occur naturally, while VIP had no effect on prolactin release. The findings confirm that VIP is not a prolactin-releasing factor in sheep and that PACAP's hormone-stimulating effects in this species are limited.
