A GHRH antagonist was used to treat a patient with acromegaly caused by a tumor producing ectopic GHRH, successfully suppressing growth hormone levels by 60-70% for several hours after each dose. The study confirmed that even tumor-driven GH excess requires active GHRH receptor stimulation and validated the use of GHRH antagonists as a tool for investigating the role of endogenous GHRH in different forms of acromegaly.
