PACAP38, a neuropeptide, was found to enhance the ability of both macrophages and lymphocytes to adhere to surfaces, while having opposite effects on their movement -- increasing macrophage mobility but decreasing lymphocyte mobility. The effects appeared to operate through different receptor types and signaling pathways in each cell type, revealing a nuanced role for this neuropeptide in modulating immune cell function.
