PACAP-38, a neuropeptide related to VIP, was shown to stimulate digestive enzyme (amylase) release from guinea pig pancreatic cells in a dose-dependent manner through the cAMP signaling pathway. A VIP receptor antagonist based on a GHRH analog completely blocked this effect, confirming that PACAP-38 acts through VIP-preferring receptors in the pancreas to regulate digestive enzyme secretion.
