This study characterized an unusual inward-rectifying potassium channel found naturally in frog egg cells (Xenopus oocytes) that partially inactivates at certain voltages. The channel showed distinct pharmacological properties, being blocked by barium, cesium, and quinine but not by 4-aminopyridine, and was present in oocytes from specific donor sources, highlighting the importance of recognizing endogenous currents when using oocytes for ion channel research.
