Using a GHRH antagonist, researchers proved that the body's own GHRH is essential for growth hormone release triggered by common pharmacological stimulants including arginine, L-dopa, insulin-induced hypoglycemia, clonidine, and pyridostigmine. The antagonist significantly suppressed the GH response to every one of these stimuli, indicating they all work by triggering hypothalamic GHRH release as a common mechanism.
