Women with hypothalamic amenorrhea (loss of menstruation related to weight loss) showed an exaggerated growth hormone response to sermorelin (GHRH) compared to healthy controls, along with lower IGF-I levels and BMI. This heightened GH responsiveness suggests that the weight-loss-related amenorrheic condition disrupts the normal GH-IGF-I regulatory axis at a central neuroendocrine level.
