This study found that temporary protein malnutrition early in life permanently altered growth hormone regulation and insulin secretion in rats. Rats fed a low-protein diet for just three weeks after weaning showed reduced spontaneous GH secretion, enhanced GH response to sermorelin challenge, and severely blunted insulin responses to glucose in adulthood, suggesting that early nutrition critically shapes lifelong hormonal control.
