A pilot study tested intranasal GHRH in eight growth-hormone-deficient children over six months and found that while it initially stimulated growth hormone release and accelerated short-term growth, the effects diminished within weeks as nasal absorption decreased and some children developed antibodies. Local side effects including sneezing and nasal irritation led two patients to discontinue treatment, indicating that intranasal GHRH in its current formulation is not practical for pediatric use.
