Children with hypothalamic growth hormone deficiency treated with high-dose GHRH injections (60 micrograms/kg/day in three doses) achieved growth rates comparable to those on standard growth hormone therapy over six months. Lower-dose GHRH was less effective, and unlike growth hormone treatment, GHRH therapy showed a priming effect that actually improved pituitary responsiveness over time rather than suppressing it.
