Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) did not inhibit the growth hormone response to GHRH in healthy women, contrary to a previous report, but significantly suppressed it in patients with anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders. This indicates that eating disorders alter the neuroendocrine regulation of the growth hormone axis, possibly through changes in somatostatin sensitivity or hypothalamic signaling.
