Researchers used a six-day GHRH priming protocol to distinguish between hypothalamic and pituitary causes of growth hormone deficiency in children who initially did not respond to a single GHRH dose. Half the children showed improved growth hormone responses after priming (indicating hypothalamic rather than pituitary deficiency), while the other half remained unresponsive, suggesting a true pituitary problem. This priming approach may help clinicians select appropriate treatments for growth-hormone-deficient children.
