The drug acipimox, which lowers free fatty acid levels, was shown to boost the growth hormone response to GHRH in both obese and normal subjects. In obese individuals, combining acipimox with pyridostigmine nearly fully restored the blunted growth hormone response, supporting the idea that elevated free fatty acids contribute to impaired growth hormone secretion in obesity.
