Researchers compared the effects of GHRH and oxytocin on growth hormone-producing pituitary cells in lambs by measuring both hormone levels and cell size changes. GHRH caused a large spike in growth hormone and shrank the cells (indicating active secretion), while oxytocin did not raise growth hormone levels but caused the cells to enlarge, suggesting it may promote hormone storage rather than release.
