Derivatives of peptide T, a small protein fragment, were found to stimulate the growth of normal human skin cells (keratinocytes) in laboratory cultures. Experiments with a VIP-blocking agent showed that peptide T compounds and VIP likely promote skin cell growth through different cellular receptors, despite producing similar effects.
