Sermorelin (human GRF 1-29) was found to trigger histamine release from rat mast cells through a non-immune mechanism involving a G-protein signaling pathway. The process depends on internal calcium mobilization rather than external calcium, and is amplified by protein kinase C activation, revealing an unexpected interaction between growth hormone-releasing peptides and immune cells involved in allergic and inflammatory responses.
