Infusion of the neuropeptide galanin in healthy men stimulated growth hormone release on its own and dramatically enhanced the growth hormone response to sermorelin (GHRH) when the two were given together. Galanin slightly reduced ACTH and cortisol levels but had no effect on prolactin, TSH, LH, or FSH, suggesting it plays a specific physiological role in regulating growth hormone secretion in humans.
