Epithalamin reduced the overall incidence of tumors by 1.3-fold and malignant tumors by 2.7-fold in rats exposed to cancer-causing X-ray radiation, with particular suppression of mammary adenocarcinomas, thyroid tumors, leukemias, and uterine cancers. The protective effect is attributed to normalization of hormonal and metabolic disruptions caused by radiation exposure.
