In vitro study using primary human skeletal myotubes treated with dexamethasone (DEXA) to model glucocorticoid-induced muscle wasting, demonstrating that both MOTS-c and S14G-humanin (HNG) attenuate DEXA-induced myotube atrophy through preservation of mitochondrial function and protein synthesis pathways. MOTS-c and HNG independently reduced myotube size loss. Establishes human skeletal muscle as a direct target for MOTS-c's anti-atrophic effects—providing translational evidence for MOTS-c as a countermeasure to glucocorticoid-induced sarcopenia in patients requiring long-term steroid therapy.
