Formulation study developing morphology-engineered zinc oxide nanocarriers with three distinct geometries (smooth spherical, spiky sea-urchin, compact spiky) for pulmonary delivery of liraglutide, evaluating deposition efficiency and permeation across pulmonary barriers. While focused on liraglutide, findings inform the broader challenge of non-injectable GLP-1 RA delivery platforms applicable to semaglutide development. Advances inhaled GLP-1 RA delivery technology—potentially enabling a needle-free systemic route that overcomes the complex SNAC-dependent gastric absorption of oral semaglutide and the injection barrier of subcutaneous formulations.
