This laboratory study showed that thymosin alpha-1 can directly enhance the ability of CD8+ T-cells to kill triple-negative breast cancer cells, including hard-to-target cancer stem-like cells. In exhausted immune cells that had lost their cancer-fighting ability, thymosin alpha-1 partially restored their function and reduced markers of exhaustion. Gene analysis in over 1,100 breast cancer patients confirmed that thymosin alpha-1-responsive genes correlated with stronger anti-tumor immune activity.
