Retrospective observational study of 144 patients taking semaglutide or tirzepatide who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), assessing residual gastric content (RGC) rates as a marker of aspiration risk during upper endoscopy. Quantified the relationship between GLP-1/GIP agonist use and food retention despite standard fasting protocols. Provides endoscopist-specific evidence for the GLP-1/GIP agonist gastroparesis risk—establishing modified pre-endoscopy fasting guidance for patients on tirzepatide and informing GI endoscopy society protocols to reduce aspiration events during upper endoscopy procedures.
