Ex vivo study treating isolated rat and pig pancreatic islets with MOTS-c to assess effects on insulin and glucagon secretion, receptor expression, cell viability, and cell death across two species with different physiological relevance to human diabetes. MOTS-c modulated islet hormone secretion and improved viability. Provides direct evidence for MOTS-c's regulatory role in pancreatic islet function using physiologically relevant models—establishing that MOTS-c acts directly on islet cells to modulate insulin/glucagon balance, supporting its consideration as an islet-protective therapy in both T1DM and T2DM.
