Cross-sectional study analyzing plasma levels of mitochondrial biomarkers including PGC-1α and MOTS-c in acute coronary syndrome patients stratified by sex, examining how ACS and biological sex interact to alter circulating mitochondrial marker profiles. Characterizes sex-stratified mitochondrial dysfunction signatures in ACS. Contributes to the developing MOTS-c cardiovascular biomarker literature by establishing sex-specific differences in circulating MOTS-c during ACS—with implications for sex-stratified cardiovascular risk assessment and for understanding why mitochondrial dysfunction manifests differently in male versus female cardiac disease.
