In vitro study using INS-1E (β-cell) and αTC-1 (α-cell) pancreatic cell lines to examine MOTS-c's effects on insulin and glucagon secretion, hormone receptor expression, and cell viability under different metabolic conditions, alongside characterization of MOTS-c secretion patterns from islet cells. Provides a cellular pharmacology profile for MOTS-c in pancreatic endocrine cells. Establishes cell-autonomous MOTS-c effects in both pancreatic α and β cells—demonstrating that MOTS-c directly regulates the insulin/glucagon secretory balance from islet cells, providing a mechanistic foundation for MOTS-c's glucose-stabilizing effects in diabetes.
